Scribd: The Netflix of eBooks
Career Path : Education News
eBook lovers everywhere will be rejoiced to hear that they no longer have to scrounge the internet for cheap eBooks, or pay high costs – which are only slightly less than a paper version – from online book retailers. That’s because Scribd has arrived in our lives. The insane popularity of Netflix has finally transferred over to literature, in a new subscription model recently released by the company.
With Scribd, users pay a fee of $8.95 per month, and then have access to over 500,000 fiction and non-fiction books, audio books and cook books! Talk about democratizing learning!
Now, Scribd has raised $22 million in order to add to its subscription base. Already Scribd has books from over 1,000 publishers, including big name publishers like HarperCollins, MacMillan, Penguin and Simon & Schuster. Having an online library makes reading even more accessible to people old and young around the world – and may make youth more likely to tune into a book.
