The San Jose Mercury News reports that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan will be opening a private preschool and K-8 school in East Palo Alto. The school will cater to underprivileged students in the area and is expected to open in August.

It’s no secret that the duo is passionate about education, as they have already donated $100 million to New Jersey schools, $7.5 million to college scholarships and have taken part in other educational initiatives. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that their latest project was derived from “Chan’s passion to alleviate the effects of poverty on children,” as San Jose Mercury News states.

While no details have been made public regarding how much money the pair put into this project, we do know that the new private school will be tuition-free, and will be able to accommodate 700 students in total, as well as their families.

What are your thoughts on the Zuckerbergs’ latest contribution to education?
