Malala Donates Her Nobel Peace Prize Money to Gaza Schools

Several weeks ago, the Nobel Committee announced that Malala Yousafzai was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, for her work promoting girls’ education around the world. The 17 year old has recently announced that she will donate the $50,000 she was awarded, towards the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees. The organization is currently rebuilding schools in Gaza which were damaged by the conflict this past summer. Malala has stated that without proper education for youth in this area, there will never be peace.
In the Gaza conflict, which lasted 50 days, 20,000 homes were destroyed, 490 children killed and 65 schools destroyed.
