Lynda.com has long been a coveted online resource for all aspects of education and training, including animation, web design and web development (HTML, CSS). Users are able to sign up for a free trial and watch any of their thousands of online courses. If skills seekers want unlimited access to these courses, they can pay a monthly fee of $25.

LinkedIn, one of the most popular professional networking and social media websites has now bought Lynda.com—signalling LinkedIn’s venture into the online education market. LinkedIn not only wants to facilitate job seekers finding employment—they want to be the ones to help people gain the skills they need to meet the requirements of today’s job market. And of course, many of these new requirements are technical.

As for the purchase, Lynda.com has already stated that most of their workers will stay onboard and join LinkedIn as a part of the deal.

The purchase is estimated to have cost $1.5 billion.
