Welcome to Schools Training Top 10, a weekly roundup of the best and most interesting stories in education. Over the next ten weeks, we will be serving up some delicious details about 10 Canadian universities that are known for their stellar cafeteria food.

Toronto’s Ryerson University values healthy, sustainable and affordable food. The school offers its students wholesome food that’s made with fresh, high-quality ingredients and always tastes great.

Recently, Ryerson has started offering students a daily $5 meal called The Daily Friendly Fiver, combining nutrition and value. The Daily Friendly Fiver is available in both Pitman and ILLC dining halls, as well as in The Hub.

In order to make it easier for students with dietary restrictions to select meals that they can enjoy, Ryerson has also implemented a thorough labelling system. Signs, menus and food packaging are all labelled with an icon, which can indicate a number of restrictions. These icons include:

  • Ontario sourced
  • Vegetarian
  • Vegan
  • Gluten-free
  • Halal
  • Contains nuts
  • Ocean friendly
