Welcome to Schools Training Top 10, a weekly roundup of the best and most interesting stories in education. Over the next ten weeks, we will be serving up some delicious details about 10 Canadian universities that are known for their stellar cafeteria food.

With over 100 eateries and coffee shops located right on campus, it’s no wonder that the University of Western Ontario ranks #4 on our list!

The University of Western Ontario houses a wide range of restaurants, cafeterias and coffee houses—all of which offer plenty of great-tasting and nutritious dining options. However, when students grow hungry (or thirsty) throughout the day, they may have difficulty deciding what it is they’d like to eat or drink, mainly because there is so much to choose from. The university has found a way to simplify this dilemma—by creating an app: The Eateries App.

The Eateries app can be used for a wide range of things—students can inform themselves on the location of all of Western’s eateries, whether or not they are opened, what their hours of operation are and how far a place is from the location of the student.

The university also offers various meal plans to its students. In addition, Western has also adopted the “Fresh Program,” which was developed by graduates of the school’s Masters of Food and Nutritional Sciences program. The program was “designed to increase awareness, build skills, reward healthy eating and influence the campus foodservice environment.” On top of this, Western’s NetNutrition service provides students with easy access to the nutrition information of the food items served on campus.
