Algonquin College’s Facebook Contest

Topic : Contests

Ottawa-based Algonquin College has launched a Facebook contes that will give students the chance to win $1,000 cash or $1,500 towards tuition (with other cash prizes of $750, $500 and $250). The contest which is being called, “I LIKE Algonquin”, is encouraging full- and part-time students to submit a 15- to 30-second video on the school’s Future Students Facebook page. The idea is that friends (and pretty much anyone else on Facebook) can then vote for their favorite video.

“We know that students spend a lot of time on websites like Facebook, and we want to encourage them to interact with Algonquin College when they are online. The more engaged students are with the College, the more they will get out of their college experience,” says Doug Wotherspoon, Executive Director of Advancement at Algonquin College.

The contest is part of a larger digital campaign that hopes to connect with future and current students while promoting Algonquin College as a leading post-secondary institution focused on the quality of instructors, programs, and services offered. Here is a recruitment video released by the school (featuring students, instructors, and staff telling us why they like Algonquin):

As you can see, the slickly made video put an emphasis on showcasing the school’s facilities, lab and work stations. It sets a fairly high standard, and the school will no doubt be hoping that some of the video submissions received during this contest can offer something to compliment this wide-angle view (something quirky that can go viral and really get the web talking).

The Algonquin College Facebook contest will run until midnight on Friday, Feb. 17, with winners announced the following week.
