Typical Job Duties

Responsibilities as an early childcare assistant include preparing nutritious meals in child-sized portions, early childhood education including basic concepts like numeracy and literacy, and seeing to the safety of children. Some duties and tasks that you’ll be asked to perform are:

–          Arranging furniture for different scenarios (lunch, nap time, etc.)
–          Developing daily activities that are fun, creative and instructive
–          Assisting in record keeping
–          Maintaining equipment
–          Housekeeping
–          Leading activities such as reading stories, teaching songs, teaching use of musical instruments, teaching the use craft materials, and facilitating trips to local points of interest
–          Assisting in the development of proper eating, dressing and washroom habits
–          Observing signs of learning disabilities or emotional problems

Children are inherently curious, but have not developed a full capacity to understand consequences in their explorations or complete physical co-ordination.
