Make the Most of Your Summer by Going Analog

June is just days away and summer is in the air! Nothing beats the anticipation that arises during the fall of spring and the sultry oncoming of the summer months. To boost up the hype, here are a few essential ways to fill up your summer days.

Aimless Strolls

When I say aimless I literally mean without any direction whatsoever. Gone are the days when we would just step out the house for the sake of stroll, without work or a class to get to, or an appointment to be on time for. This summer, try to make it a priority to become reacquainted with your city or town. Veer off onto an unexplored street, pick up a coffee (iced no less!) from a café you have been to before, or even drop in for a quick bite at that cute place you’ve been meaning to try but never got around to it.

The trick is to be adventurous in your aimlessness. Getting lost in your own city is an experience in itself, and will open your eyes to hidden little nooks that you would have never discovered otherwise.

Added Fun Tip: Bring your camera along with you and take a few shots of your wandering journey.

Unlike the cold winter months, the sunny summer days give us hundreds of reasons to get up from the computer and outside into the livening world. But when you do muster up the courage to log off, be sure that you’re completely disconnected. What’s a few hours without the internet? You can do it! Besides, there are so many lovely distractions in the outdoors (be it urban, suburban or rural) that you won’t even notice that you haven’t checked your email in however long.

Instead of your tablet, grab a book or a magazine instead. Head over to a park and sprawl under a tree and let yourself settle into a good read. Or, if you’d rather be on the go, take a hike or a bike ride.

Added Fun Tip: Leave your phone at home. Being unreachable for a few hours will do wonders for your peace of mind.

My personal favorite summer indulgence is winding down with a few friends over some drinks on a patio. No work and no deadlines, just me and my buddies and some ice cold sangria. There are a slew of patio restaurants in Oakville where you can do this, and where you and your friends are sure to just kick back and add a few laughs into your collection of memories. And of course, don’t forget the food. Dig in!

Added Fun Tip: People watch! Outdoor dining is a great opportunity to observe strangers, and all the interesting details about them. …Just don’t be creepy about it.

Now that you are done reading this article, turn off your screen and go outside! And don’t forget the sunscreen!
