Career Path : Automotive

Hybrid cars are on the rise. The hybrid car market has expanded quite rapidly in the last ten years, with more than 3% of the automobile market being represented by cars with both electric and gas powered engines. Whether it’s our push for a more environmentally friendly approach to driving, or the cost-effectiveness of a car that can run on a charge and fuel, as consumers we tend to be leaning towards hybrids. This blog post by Automotive Training Centre discusses how that may be leading to increased and varied careers in the automotive sector.

“What this means for automotive careers is that there are expected to be an increase in jobs in the hybrid car sector. One of the most important careers in that sector is that of a calibration engineer, without whom, the world of automobiles would be a dark, messy place.

A calibration engineer’s job is to create and tune the digital algorithms that control the engine and transmission. These complex algorithms are what ensure that all of the essential systems in your vehicle are able to communicate with each other as quickly and efficiently as possible.”

Calibration engineers have a tough job and an even tougher one when hybrids are concerned. Hybrid engines are much more complicated than their fuel only cousins, meaning that the intense care that goes into calibrating them is pretty daunting. However, if you have the skills and the desire, a pretty rewarding career awaits you.
