Nursing College is the Gateway to Life Beyond a Job
Career Path : Healthcare
The first record of a nurse was written in Romans 16:1 of the Holy Bible, making nursing one of the oldest professions of our time. This timeless calling is the protection of continued life, and is considered to be one of the most honored careers in the world (think of Florence Nightingale and Mother Teresa), and hold no boundaries for those that are truly committed to their careers. Fortunately, it is a very accessible career, especially to those individuals that are truly motivated.
While many nurses work under doctors, they are still in charge of the maintenance and recovery of their charges. This responsibility very often makes the difference between the life and death of a patient. Consider the mission of the American Nurses Association (ANA) that clearly states that ânursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations.â That basically translates to âtaking care of everything once the doctor has made the diagnosis.â Nurses ensure the recovery of their patients to optimal life, and this can be a long road for those that are wrought by illness or handicap.
Becoming a nurse should never be done on a whim. It is necessary for potential students to consider the responsibility of becoming a nurse. It requires a person that is highly trained and very adaptable to unexpected situations, with a very quick reaction time. Nurses must also be capable of retaining high levels of information. The memory of a nurse in regards to the specific needs of a patient can often be imperative to the survival of a patient. Nursing college teaches you how to hone these strengths, ad improve your medical capabilities.
Nurses arenât limited to working in hospitals, either. There is an incredible diversity in the areas of practice that are available to trained nurses. They range from mental health nursing to community health nursing, to midwifery. Some nurses are even qualified to work independently, but this takes an augmented level of training. Not all nurses need to work in the field either. Some prefer to teach, or supervise. Careers in nursing include:
– Hospital Nursing
– Community Care Managers
– Nursing Entrepreneurship
– Nursing Research
– Nursing Education
Additionally, every one of the above fields has a number of different branches of specialization. Nursing schools allow individuals to choose their specialization after their initial studies are completed, permitting them to weigh their strengths before committing to a field.
Once trained as a nurse, you are immediately considered as a valued asset. This is due to the fact that there is a shortage in the medical field, of both qualified nurses and doctors. There are more people than medical practitioners. If you have spent any amount of time in a hospital or clinic, then you have probably experienced the backlash of a depleted and exhausted staff.
A promising career from your state of entry, nursing is one of the few careers in the world that you can feel good about. And it is forever changing, continuously providing new challenges.
